Staying at the Ace: We'd love for as many guests as possible to join us at the Ace on Saturday and Sunday.
Staying elsewhere: There are many great Airbnbs and hotels in the area; we'd suggest something in the Palm Springs–Cathedral City–Palm Desert corridor to minimize driving time to the Ace.
Be sure to book your accommodations as soon as possible. Our wedding is during Modernism Week in Palm Springs and we expect lodging to be in demand.
For those flying in, we recommend the Palm Springs (PSP) airport, which is 5-10 minutes from the Ace and doesn't require renting a car. The next closest airport is Ontario (ONT), about 1 hour away. LAX and Burbank (BUR) are over 2 hours away, but could be double that in rush hour.
Kim was supposed to spend Labor Day Weekend in New York, but instead she flew to Seattle to visit her parents. There, against her better judgement, she went on a first date with some guy who hated the outdoors and the NFL.
Kim and Josh met at Cafe Presse in Josh's neighborhood. They got into a heated debate over Seattle's best ice cream, so they went to Dick's to put Kim's opinion to the test (Note: Dick's does not make Seattle's best ice cream). Kim flew home to LA the very next day; within 48 hours Josh had booked a flight to see her.
Unfortunately Josh selected LAX, the incorrect airport for Kim's half of the city. She made sure he understood this minutes after begrudgingly picking him up. She was so thrown by the West Side that they drove aimlessly until they hit a beach, rode a Ferris wheel, and demonstrated their baseball swings (Note: Kim's is better) in a parking lot — which caused Josh to rip his second-date shirt. The next day, they rekindled their baseball rivalry at the batting cages.
Before they could go on a third date, Josh left on a solo trip to Hawaii that he'd booked 3 weeks before they met. He spent 5 days pining and feeling ridiculous. The day after he got home, he hopped back on a plane to LA in time for Kim's birthday party. It went pretty well.
Every weekend or two, Kim and Josh flew back and forth between Seattle and LA. At least they saw each more often than if Josh lived on the West Side. Finally, during the holidays, they snuck away to Oregon for a few days. They stood in restaurant lines in Portland, explored Cannon Beach, and got lost in what appeared to be a Scottish moor on the drive home.
Josh was dying to introduce Kim to the obscure internet startup where he was currently employed, so he invited her to the company party. Kim agreed to go only if the Seahawks would also come. They didn't, but she got to catch a touchdown anyway so she left happy (albeit very cold). The world's worst caricature drawing has been redacted.
Kim was dying to introduce Josh to literally anything not in a building. So off to REI they went. He had to buy a lot of supplies and apparel. A LOT. In the end he realized that "outdoorsman" was in fact a very stylish look for him.
Finally.
Josh continued to fly down (to Burbank) a few times a month and eventually reached Alaska MVP status, which is all he really wanted out of this relationship. They had to do something during all these trips, so they managed to fill their time with more batting cage sessions, get-togethers with friends, and concerts.
For the first time since their second date, Kim agreed to travel west of the 405. The journey was arduous and the destination fraught with peril, crowds, and bad restaurants. But they took a nice photo.
Before embarking on a long international vacation (hold that thought), they stopped over in New York, where Kim showed Josh her old Williamsburg apartment and they dined on renowned New York bagels and ramen (not at the same time).
For 8 days, they cooked tuna on a stone, discovered São Jorge cheese, and drove around in what appeared to be a Mario Kart level. They may or may not have rappelled down waterfalls. Best trip of Josh's life. For Kim...top 3 at worst.
They wished they were still in the Azores.
After returning from the Azores, Kim spent part of the summer with Josh in Seattle. Finally, in August, Josh moved to Los Angeles to start a new job. And, by the way, Kim happened to live there too. What a coincidence!
Josh had been in LA for 6 weeks, and Kim was starting to wonder what was taking so long. One night they went out to a ping pong bar (don't ask) followed by dinner at one of their favorite restaurants. Somehow, on the menu was a cocktail called "Something Borrowed, Something Blue." Naturally, Josh ordered it. Then he suggested they avail themselves of the photo booth in the corner. Kim was confused, until the flashbulbs flashed and Josh produced a box. Technically, he didn't actually pop the question, as the photos came faster than advertised, so when he prompted Kim for an answer she responded "you never asked me anything." Somehow it all worked out and here you are.
Help us have an adventure, domestic or abroad. As we plan to move to a bigger space and also love to travel, we would greatly appreciate any size of a contribution to those funds, but if you prefer physical objects, we've included a few options in our registry below.
